‘Cop on a Rooftop’ to raise money for Special Olympics

Local law enforcement will be at Dunkin’ Donuts Friday

Area law enforcement officers will be standing tall Friday as they raise money for Special Olympics Iowa.

The annual Cop on a Rooftop event will be held from 6 to 11 a.m. Friday at Dunkin’ Donuts, 2520 Fifth Ave. S.

Jeremey Moore, police administrative technician for the Fort Dodge Police Department and a member of the Cop on a Rooftop planning committee, said the Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa State Patrol and Fort Dodge Correctional Facility, among other agencies, will be participating.

The fundraiser will feature law enforcement officers standing on the roof of Dunkin’ Donuts as a way of encouraging people to donate money to Special Olympics Iowa.

Officers will also be stationed at the entrance of the restaurant as well as in the drive-through collecting donations.

Moore said last year, Webster County law enforcement agencies raised $2,600.76 from Cop on a Rooftop, more than any other agency in the state of Iowa.

“So we’re hoping to raise as much, or at least beat out, the other locations this year,” he said. “And the people who donate do get a coupon for a free medium iced or hot coffee drink. That’s kind of an incentive to come out and participate.”
