Police say arsonist burned down root beer tent at Frontier Days
Officials say the quick thinking of a witness at the scene helped police catch the man who allegedly set fire to the root beer tent at the Fort Museum and Frontier Village early Friday.
Fort Dodge Police arrested Timothy Wood, 29, of Fort Dodge, and charged him with arson after the incident at 1:09 a.m., according to a press release from the police department.
Fire Chief Kent Hulett said the tent was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived, and fire had almost spread to the adjacent wall of the fort itself.
“There was an eyewitness that had seen an individual running from the site. With good information to law enforcement, there was a quick apprehension of the suspect,” Hulett said. “This guy chased him down and called law enforcement.”
