DAYTON — A large water main break east of Dayton has caused a boil advisory to be issued for Xenia Rural Water customers located west of the Des Moines River in Calhoun and Webster counties, according to a news release from Xenia Rural Water District.

The water main break was reported on 330th Street near Washington Avenue in Webster County.

About 465 customers are impacted, according to Doug Wiles, water technician for Xenia.

Technicians from Xenia are working to repair the water main, Wiles said.

“We are trying to address this as quickly as possible,” Wiles said.

It’s not yet known what caused the break, according to Wiles.

Xenia has advised residents of Xenia’s Western portion of the North Water Service Area to boil water before consumption.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.

Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that might be in the water.

The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.

After repairs are made to the water main, the water will be tested before the advisory is lifted.

Wiles reported the advisory could be lifted as early as Tuesday afternoon.
