Taste of Iowa will help send local students to Chicago

The Iowa Central Community College Culinary Arts Program will be hosting its fourth annual Taste of Iowa Saturday at the Willow Ridge Restaurant, 1788 Madison Ave.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Bailey Porter, an Iowa Central student who’s helping to organize the event, said that there will be lots of different offerings to try.

“They create their own dishes,” she said. “There are three different beef dishes and three different chicken dishes.”

That’s just the beginning.

There will also be dairy, fish, pork and pastry.

Guests will be able to take some of those baked goods home with them.

“The bakery students will have items for sale,” Porter said.

In addition to the many dishes, there will also be about 20 wines and 20 beers for guests to sample.

“We’ll feature a lot of different styles,” she said.

The event is a fundraiser that helps send a group of the Iowa Central Culinary Arts students on their annual trip to Chicago to visit a food expo and see firsthand some of Chicago’s fine restaurants and sample their food.

Tickets to the event are $25 per person and are available at the door.
