Road plan to be heard April 11

Supervisors appoint Naylor to magistrate appointing commission

The Webster County Board of Supervisors planned for a hearing on the county’s five-year road construction plan during a short meeting Tuesday.

The board also appointed Gwenda Naylor to the Magistrate Appointing Commission to replace Jane Burleson, who recently moved out of town.

“I want to thank Jane Burleson for serving,” Supervisor Keith Dencklau said. “She sat on that for 20 years, and did a great job.”

The commission is part of the nominating process to appoint magistrate judges.

The five-year road construction plan will be explained in more detail at the supervisors regular meeting April 11.

“We’ve been doing this for several years, to give the public opportunity to comment,” Webster County Engineer Randy Will said.

The county’s overall budget has already been set, including amounts to be spent on construction, but Will’s office also has ties with the Iowa Department of Transportation.

“On or before April 15, I have to get the DOT budget program officially approved,” Will said.

Also on Tuesday, the supervisors approved permits for dust control vendors Pro Cooperative, of Pocahontas, and Deano’s Road Dust Control, of Mason City.

These join Jerico Services Inc., of Indianola, and Heffron Services Inc., of Windsor Heights, as four approved dust control vendors citizens can hire for county roads.

Anyone living in the county can hire contractors to provide dust control on the gravel roads. Those contractors apply for a permit from the county each year, and coordinate with county crews. Will said the companies usually have 100 to 110 customers throughout the county.
