More charges filed in Ames shooting

The four men who were arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting near Iowa State University’s campus in Ames Feb. 19 are facing additional charges, according to the Ames Police Department.

Terrion Maxfield, 20, Desmon R. Siner, 19, Charles Smith, 20, and Traveion D. Henry, 21, each were charged Friday with attempted murder, a class B felony, willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony, the Ames Police Department reported in a written statement.

The four men, all from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, were arrested in Fort Dodge.

They were living on campus at Iowa Central Community College.

The shooting in Ames happened minutes after a fight was broken up by officers with the Ames Police Department.

Officers had responded to a call regarding a fight near the area of Chamberlain Street and Stanton Avenue in Ames.

While on scene, a red car reportedly stopped in the 200 block of Welch Avenue and fired shots into the crowd from the vehicle, reported Ames police.

Two Ames officers were on foot in that area. The officers returned fire on the suspects’ car, Ames police reported.

Three victims were treated for gunshot wounds at the scene. Those victims have since been released from the hospitals they were taken to, Commander Geoff Huff, of the Ames Police Department reported.

The suspects fled northbound on Welch, then west on Lincoln Way, before allegedly driving to Fort Dodge.

Maxfield and Siner were located at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. Smith and Henry were also later located in Fort Dodge.

The four men are being held in the Story County Jail.
