Maxfield, Siner, Smith, and Henry are currently enrolled at ICCC, according to Beneke.
“At this point the college will work hand-in-hand with all law enforcement agencies in the ongoing investigation,” Beneke said. “The college is not at liberty to discuss any disciplinary action that may be imposed by the college on any student involved in the incident.”
All four men are from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The shooting occurred a short time after 1:30 a.m. in Ames’ Campustown, Ames police reported.
Officers with the Ames Police Department had responded to a call regarding a fight near the area of Chamberlain Street and Stanton Avenue.
After arriving on scene, groups involved in the fight were separated, and officers continued to investigate that incident.
While on scene, a red car reportedly stopped in the 200 block of Welch Avenue and fired shots into the crowd from the vehicle, reported Ames police.
Two Ames officers were on foot in that area. The officers returned fire on the suspects’ car, Ames police reported.
The suspects then stopped shooting and fled northbound on Welch, then west on Lincoln Way before allegedly driving to Fort Dodge.
Three victims were treated for gunshot wounds at the scene, Ames police reported.
One was transported to a hospital in Des Moines. The other two victims were transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
The victims’ injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, according to Ames police.
The names of the victims were not available as of Monday night.
After the suspects left Ames, the Fort Dodge Police Department was informed that the suspects may be headed to Iowa Central Community College, according to Fort Dodge police reports.
Maxfield and Siner were later located at UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge at about 2:39 a.m., Fort Dodge police reported.
The two men had sustained gunshot wounds, according to Fort Dodge police.
It’s not clear whether those gunshot wounds were sustained as a result of the shots fired from Ames police officers.
Maxfield and Siner were released from Trinity Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and transported to the Webster County Jail, Fort Dodge police reported.
The vehicle driven by the suspects, Maxfield and Siner, was located at about 2:51 a.m. at Budget Host Inn, 116 Kenyon Road W., according to Fort Dodge police reports. The vehicle was reportedly parked and unoccupied.
“During subsequent investigation into the incident, officers determined that additional suspects that were involved had entered Iowa Central dorms East Tower and were presently there at that time,” Fort Dodge police said.
Officers from multiple agencies assisted in clearing of all six floors of the building.
The rooms were cleared without incident, Fort Dodge police reported.
Smith and Henry were arrested and transported to the Webster County Jail.
All four suspects have since been transported to the Story County Jail.
