13-year-old boy charged with attempted murder

Suspect accused of shooting Robert Rivers

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, a class B felony, in connection with a Nov. 28 shooting that took place a few blocks from Butler Elementary School, according to Fort Dodge police reports.

The teen was arrested Tuesday, police reported.

His name is not being released at this time.

On Nov. 28, Robert Rivers, 24, of Fort Dodge, was shot at 1816 Seventh Ave. S.

Rivers was taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center with injuries sustained in the shooting.

Rivers was in stable condition at the time of his release from the hospital, police reported.

The shooting caused Butler Elementary School, which is a few blocks to the south of the incident, to go on lockdown for about 30 minutes.

Detectives with the Fort Dodge Police Department investigated the incident.

The Webster County sheriff’s office assisted during the investigation.
