Snow ordinance goes into effect

Emergency snow routes are marked; parking is prohibited

Emergency snow routes in Fort Dodge are marked.

The expected snowfall this weekend may prompt an automatic ban on parking on certain residental streets in Fort Dodge.

That parking prohibition will automatically go into effect on all residential emergency snow routes when there has been an accumulation of 2 inches or more of snow, according to an announcement from the Public Works Department. The parking prohibition remains in effect for 24 hours after the snow stops falling.

Residential emergency snow routes are marked with red and white signs.

About 2 to 4 inches of snow has been predicted for this weekend. The snowfall is expected to begin this morning and continue through Sunday evening.

The Public Works Department urges city residents who do not live on emergency snow routes to park their vehicles off-street to make it easier to plow the streets.
