Growing with Fort Dodge

Active Health Chiropractic, Anytime Fitness opt to expand

Active Health Chiropractic is now open in their new space at 20 N. 29th St. in Fort Dodge.

The arrival in Fort Dodge and Webster County of new businesses and companies has created a boom atmosphere in the community. The positive economic environment brought about by new ventures is also making it more attractive for already-established enterprises to invest in expansions.

That’s one of the reasons Dr. Josh Mason decided to relocate and expand two thriving businesses he leads — Active Health Chiropractic and Anytime Fitness.

“The local economy was a reassuring factor for both of our businesses,” he said. “To know that we have a healthy and growing economy in the area gave me comfort that my hunch and my gut that we could continue to grow was valid. It made me more comfortable with the decision to grow the business.”

In 2017, Mason set about creating a new home for his ventures, which as the year began were located at 1523 Second Ave. N. A building at 20 N. 29th St.., which once housed one of the community’s largest restaurants, was purchased and renovated to house the chiropractic practice. A substantial addition was built on the west side of the structure to become the new home of the fitness facility.

“We started construction this past spring, around April of May,” Mason said. “The old chiropractic office was 4,000 square feet. The old gym was about 7,500 square feet. We renovated the 7,500-square-foot former restaurant for Active Health Chiropractic. We built an 11,000-square-foot addition to the building for the gym, which includes Anytime Fitness and CrossFit Fort Dodge.”

The fitness area of Active Health Chiropractic and Anytime Fitness features several large rooms where clients can work out. They are located at 20 N. 29th St. in Fort Dodge.

The new facilities were occupied by Active Health Chiropractic and Anytime Fitness in late November 2017. CrossFit Fort Dodge is part of the fitness club.

“We needed more space,” Mason said. “We wanted to create a space that not only we could be proud of but also the community. We wanted to create a first-class environment to provide first-class care and first-class services.”

Now that the fitness club and chiropractic clinic have settled in to their new environments, Mason said it is clear the decision to undertake this project was a sound one.

“People are loving the space,” he said. “It’s been good for the staff and patients. Things have worked out really well. Probably the best compliment I’ve had is people saying it seems like something they would see in a bigger area, like Des Moines. I’m proud that we’re able to offer that here in Fort Dodge.”

Both the chiropractic office and fitness club are poised for further growth. Mason said new patients are welcome and there is ample space for more members to be accommodated in the gymnasium area.

“With the move, we’re able to have more class offerings,” he said. “We now have two classrooms whereas before we had only one, so we can have two classes going on at once. There is a lot more space so we can have more members working out at the same time.”

As was the case in its previous location, Anytime Fitness members can access the gym facilities 24 hours a day,

seven days a week.

About Active Health Chiropractic

Mason founded Active Health in October 2010. The enterprise has grown into a comprehensive source of health care services. The team includes four chiropractors — Josh Mason, his brother, Zach Mason, Jordan Hagar and Sarah Keys. All four chiropractors are graduates of the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport. The Mason brothers and Hagar are alumni of Fort Dodge Senior High. Keys is originally from New York State.

The health care team also includes massage therapists, an athletic trainer, a dietitian and a variety of support personnel.

“Chiropractic isn’t only for back pain,” Josh Mason told The Messenger three years ago. “With the team we’ve built, we can lead you to health if you’d only allow us to. … When people think about health, I want them to think of Active Health Chiropractic.”

The practice is co-owned by Josh and Zach Mason.
