PRI slates soil health workshop

STANHOPE — Prairie Rivers of Iowa and the Women, Food and Agriculture Network are co-sponsoring Women Caring for the Land workshop for female landowners in and around the Squaw Creek Watershed, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at the Stanhope Community Center.

For the past eight years, the workshop has offered a peer-to-peer, informal discussion format about individual farm management goals between female landowners and conservationists.

This workshop will give women the chance to sit together and learn about assessing and improving the health of their soil and learn about conservation practices that boost soil health, including cover crops, no-till, and strip-till.

The morning session will consist of introductions and presentations about resource sharing, soil health information, and conservation planning. After a lunch, participants will visit a local farmer to see how conservation practices can be implemented on the land.

RSVPs are requested to Kayla Hasper at (515)-232-0048 by 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
