FDSH to host ISHMA State Jazz Band Festival today

Fort Dodge Senior High will host an Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Band Festival today beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Nine bands, including two from Fort Dodge Senior High, and one each from Belmond-Klemme, Humboldt, Manson Northwest Webster, Newell Fonda, Pocahontas Area, St. Edmond and Storm Lake will perform.

FDSH Jazz II will perform at 8:40 p.m., followed by FDSH Jazz I at 9:20 p.m. All performances will take place in the Gail Niceswanger Little Theater at FDSH.

Bands will be judged on overall tone quality, intonation, blend/balance, rhythmic feel, interpretation, authority/precision and musicianship. Rhythm sections will be evaluated on time as well as fills/back-up, and solos will be judged on creativity and musicianship. Each band will receive a division rating.

The public is invited to attend the contest. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for students K-12.
