FDMS students selected to Honor Band

Eleven fifth- and sixth-grade students from Fort Dodge Middle School were selected for the 2017 River City Honor Band. The NCIBA Honor Band performed April 22 in Mason City. The students spent the day rehearsing with band students from other schools before presenting a concert that afternoon.

“We had 11 outstanding students representing Fort Dodge,” said Tara Smith, FDMS band director. “Participating in an honor band gave these musicians a chance to play some very challenging music. These experiences make them better players and they can also bring what they learned through this experience back to school to share with their peers, making the full band better, too.”

Students representing Fort Dodge Middle School were:

Fifth grade: Grant Behrens — alto saxophone; Rielley Carlson — bass clarinet; Colton Hale — trumpet; Molly Laird — oboe; Karch Smith — trumpet.

Sixth grade: Ava Bair — clarinet; Grace Casciato — flute; Kathryn Delaney — French horn; Kyle Lumsden — trumpet; Ryan Madden — trombone; Grace Tolliver — clarinet.
