Hawkeye Community Theatre
Hawkeye Community Theatre will perform “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs” on July 11-14.
Set in 1920s Oklahoma, this play focuses on Cora Flood, whose husband, Rubin, travels around selling harnesses. After the two have an enormous fight, Cora plots on how best to leave the marriage, if she can at all, hoping to take refuge with her sister and brother-in-law.
Meanwhile, their daughter, Reenie, who would love nothing more than to hide in the public library, gets ready for her first dance, and their son, Sonny, plays with cut-outs of movie stars to avoid the frightening reality of school bullies.
