Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler

Hosted by the Fort Dodge Study Club

This year, the Fort Dodge Study Club is going to let the good times roll with a Mardi Gras inspired evening during its annual fundraiser event for a local cause.

‘Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!” will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Athletics For Education and Success Martin Luther King Recreation Center, 712 Third St. N.W. Tickets are $50 per person or $100 per couple. Tickets can be purchased either through a Study Club member or at the door.

During the event there will be Cajun-style hors d’oeuvres for guests to enjoy, as well as live entertainment by local musicians.

“Every year, the Fort Dodge Study Club hosts an event to raise funds for a local cause,” said Niki Conrad. “This year we have chosen AFES (Athletics for Educational Success) as our worthy recipient.”

AFES is a non-profit organization providing hope and motivation to youth and families in the Webster County area. After school programs, sports teams, mentoring groups, drumline teams, education, and cultural opportunities are some of the many activities offered by AFES to keep youth occupied and focused on their future.

Executive Director Charles Clayton and three friends started the program in 2004 in an attempt to help troubled youth in the community. The men decided to offer day sports camps to youth in which they would highlight the need to stay in school, get an education, and value and respect themselves and others. The early camps were successful, but more was needed for the kids. By adding sporting teams, community days and mentoring programs AFES steamrolled into what it is today, developing better athletes, stronger students and tomorrow’s leaders.

The women of the Fort Dodge Study Club are proud to host the Mardi Gras-themed ”Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!” to help AFES reach their goal of being a debt-free facility,” Conrad said.
