‘Our Song Lives On’

Humboldt Community Chorus will perform a variety of music

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt Community Chorus will present its annual variety show titled “Our Song Lives On” next weekend for everyone to enjoy.

The audience will hear a variety of gospel, patriotic, and pop tunes during the two-hour show.

“We always try to do a variety of music, including patriotic songs, gospel, and even more familiar songs like pop tunes,” said Barb Nelson, member of the chorus since 1975. “We like to perform songs that everyone of every age can enjoy.”

The group will perform a medley of songs from the band Chicago, a song from “Beauty and the Beast” and a song from “Frozen.”

Also this year, the chorus will provide a special tribute to the armed forces by dedicating a song to them during the concert.

The chorus comprises 70 singers from Humboldt and surrounding communities, accompanied by a 20-piece big band. The program includes a wide variety of musical numbers as well as entertaining small groups.

“They are very hard-working and dedicated,” Nelson said. “There is a mixture of old members and new members, along with a lot of family connections within the group.”

“Our Song Lives On” will be presented by the Humboldt Community Chorus at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Feb. 4. All performances will be held in the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium in the Humboldt High School, 1500 Wildcat Road.

The band will play to entertain the audience for about 30 minutes before each concert begins.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 18. Tickets can be purchased from any member of the chorus, from V&S variety in Humboldt, or by calling 515-379-1072 and they will either mail them to you or leave them at the door the night of the show. It is recommended to buy tickets ahead of time.

“We encourage people to come out and see the show, they will not be disappointed,” Nelson said. “It is a great, enjoyable night of family entertainment.”
