Catholic Daughters to meet Thursday

Catholic Daughters of the Americas Our Lady of Good Counsel Court No. 216 will hold its annual Christmas Get-Together/Meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Corpus Christi Center, 405 N. Eighth St. There will be a social time with beverages and snacks, followed by a meal. The December meeting is a time for fellowship, fun, and giving. There will be no Mass at the December meeting. Everyone is asked to bring gifts for the women, and/or babies/toddlers that live at the YWCA in Fort Dodge. Monetary donations are welcome, also.

Trinity presents Christmas Cantata Dec. 10

The Trinity Singers of Trinity United Methodist Church will present its annual Christmas Cantata, “Here He is Born”, at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 and at 10 a.m. Dec. 11 at the church, 838 N. 25th St.

This year’s Cantata features the 30-member Trinity Singers as well as various solos and duets by Nick Salmon, Marty Smith, Jason Laird, Rhonda Wiley, Ruth Babbitt, Mark Marner and Elaine Kilian. In addition, the Cantata will also include the Trinity Ringers Bell Choir, small vocal ensembles, Dee Murman and Annie Laird on flute, Kevin Thompson on drums, and congregation sing-a-longs on various Christmas carols. Come enjoy this festive holiday ministry with such songs as “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” “See Him in the Manger,” and “Hark! The Glad Tidings.”

First Covenant presents Christmas Cantata

The First Covenant Choir will present its Christmas Cantata, “King Jesus Is His Name” on two dates, Dec. 10 at 5:30 p.m. and Dec. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 201 Ave. H. The beautiful message in song will be delivered through anthems such as, “Peace Has Come,” “Prepare Ye the Way,” and “King Jesus Is His Name”.

Narration is provided by Leon Hinton, Marilyn Birkholz, Alexsis Peterson, Phil Ecklund, Aleah Sherman, Julie Davis, Joni Kruse, and Rod Mullins. Soloists for the cantata are, Tim Anderlik, Carolyn Bergman, Don Bergman, Lisa Flaherty, Denise Halverson and Paul Halverson.

The cantata is accompanied by Kristen Utley, piano; Emma Davis, keyboard; Sean Minikis, guitar; R.K. Welander, bass; Makayla McMannus, flute; and Dean Davis, drums. The First Covenant Choir is directed by Armona Redenius.

Community Mana Meal is Dec. 10

First United Methodist Church will hold their next Mana Meal at 5 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the church, 127 N. 10th St. Bingo will be played following the meal.

Annual Christmas cookie sale is Dec. 10

The First Congregational United Church of Christ will hold its annual Christmas cookie and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the church, 1611 Williams Drive. Included in the sale will be large containers of cookies, other Christmas goodies and delectable delights and unique Christmas crafts. The public is invited to come early for the best selections and enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a cookie while you shop. Proceeds from this sale will go toward camp scholarships for youths.

The Filling Station is Wednesday

First United Methodist Church will host The Filling Station at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, 127 N. 10th St. The meal will be from 5 to 6 p.m. with a contemporary service at 6:15 p.m. Cost is $5 per adult or $15 per family. Reservations are required, please call 576-7586.

Lucia Festivity of Light pageant is Dec. 10

STRATFORD — The Swedish American community will be celebrating the upcoming St. Lucia Day with the annual Lucia Festivity of Light pageant at 2 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the Stratford Lutheran Church. There will be a Swedish carols sing-along, pronunciation practice at 1:30 p.m.

Filled with Swedish and American Christmas carols, folklore, dramatizations, along with the crowning of Lucia. The Swedish Foundation of Iowa’s Swede Bend Settlement Inc. has been hosting this event for over a decade. The public is invited to participate in this cultural and holiday experience.

Star boys, tomte (elfin boys) and Lucia maidens, ages 3-15 (non-Swedes welcomed) are still needed for the event. Please, contact organizer Carol Larson if you are interested in participating, (515) 838-2440.

Second Sunday Supper is Dec. 11

LEHIGH — The Lehigh Methodist Church will hold its Second Sunday Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 11 at the church. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links and a drink will be served for a freewill offering. Everyone is welcome.

Grace Celebrates St. Lucia Fest

The Swedish St. Lucia Fest will be celebrated at Grace Lutheran Church, 211 S. Ninth, Dec. 11, after the 8:30 and 10:45 worship services during fellowship time. Visitors are warmly welcomed at this Friendship Celebration of the congregation’s Swedish heritage. St. Lucia, dressed in white gown and candlelit crown, will visit each fellowship time. Many traditional Swedish Christmas treats will be served. Come learn more about this saint whose visit brightens this festive season.

Swedish Meatball Dinner is Sunday

BOXHOLM — Trinity Lutheran Church is hosting a Swedish meatball dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. The menu includes Swedish meatballs, parsley potatoes, peas, roll, salad, ostakaka, Christmas treats and a beverage. Cost is a freewill donation. Everyone is welcome.
